Preliminary course (Year 11)
The Year 11 course provides students with opportunities to develop and apply an understanding of the fundamental elements involved in creating software. The topics we'll cover include:
- Programming fundamentals [Python] : design process, algorithms, data structures, debugging
- The object-oriented paradigm [Python] : classes, objects, encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism
- Programming mechatronics [Python, Javascript, C ?] : sensors, actuators, circuits, wiring diagrams, algorithms
HSC course (Yr12)
The Year 12 course provides students with opportunities to extend their knowledge, understanding and skills in the development of software. A major software engineering project provides students with the opportunity to further develop project management skills. The topics we'll cover include:
- Secure software architecture [Python & Javascript]
- Programming for the web [Python, Javascript & SQL]
- Software automation [Python & Javascript] : mathematics and logic of machine learning algorithms, significance of AI
- Software engineering project
We'll mostly be using Python and Javascript for coding tasks, though may use other languages at times. Some simple text-based coding experience will be beneficial for this course. You will be expected to install some programming and server sotfware on your laptop in this course (eg Python, a database engine, possibly a web server and/or nodeJS)
Note: this course replaces the old Software Design and Development course (SDD) but covers a broader range of content, techniques and technologies at a more demanding academic level.
